"Saya dimaklumkan e-undi hadapi masalah jadi mereka (UIAM) terpaksa mengadakan pilihan raya kampus sekali lagi," katanya ketika dihubungi Sinar Harian Online.

The IIUM Student Representative Council (SRC) General Election 2012/2013 was held today, the 25th of September 2012. The General Election was held in conjunction with the Campus General Election of other IPTA nationwide. The voting began at 9.10 am and polling stations were closed at 5.10 pm this afternoon.

The election exercise was handled by the IIUM SRC Election Commission chaired by Datuk Dr. Mizan bin Hitam, Deputy Rector (Student Affairs), IIUM with the assistance from 300 staff of the Students Affairs and Development Division (STADD) and other Kulliyyah/Center/Department from both IIUM campuses of Gombak and Kuantan.  However, upon findings, the final tally shows some votes were not captured due to incomplete encryption process.

Thus, in the name of fair and transparent election, IIUM SRC General Election Commission is of the view that the 2012/2013 IIUM SRC General Election results cannot be formally announced due to the technical problem encountered during the e-voting process.

According to the feedback from the Technical Committee of the IIUM SRC General Election 2012/2013,theElection Commission decided to conduct a re-election exercise upon Senate approval. In this regard, the Election Commission may resort to the use of manual voting and this process is expected to be carried out about a week from now, InsyaAllah.

However, the campaign process was done in conducive environment of the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue without any sign of influence from outsiders or political parties. The candidates are all independent and they DO NOT represent the interest of  any particular groupings. Their standing for contest are of their own manifestos and pledges premised  on the needs of the voters.

The claim of any particular interest group outside the University on the political support given to the candidates is baseless since it has never been proven to be so and in addition to what had been declared by the candidates.

Voter turnout was  75.02% of the total eligible voters i.e. 15,715. 31 seats were contested of which 18 seats were contested in Gombak and 13 seats were contested in Kuantan. The seats contested represented each of the Kulliyyah (faculty). Each Kulliyyah was represented by two seats in addition to five international seats for international students.

The Election Commission of the 2012/2013 SRC General Election apologizes on the technical problem on the E-Voting system and for any inconveniences that this untoward incident may have caused.
